Heart of a Teacher

Wizard of Oz: As for you, my galvanized friend, you want a heart. You don't know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.
Tin Woodsman: But I still want one.

Ah Tin Man, you do have a heart, just like teachers have a heart too! Today is International Blog Hopping Day and our party is themed with Wizard of Oz. Today I'm hosting the Tin Man who has a heart. So we're here today to talk about heart, about what being a teacher means to you!

To me, being a teacher means helping those young brains gather knowledge and learn. To instill the love of reading. Those kids should be excited to learn and want to ask questions. Helping students experience success and learn from their mistakes.

It also means being there for kids and listening when they need to talk. Anything from their fears to their goals. Even as a sub who fleets in and out of their lives, they share their goals and fears with me. In doing so, there is a a special bond. I'll run into past students in the store and still receive a smile or a wave.

This is such a beautiful quote, I had to share it.

"An understanding heart is everything in a teacher, and cannot be esteemed highly enough. One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child."
Carl Jung
