The title refers to my gorgeous new blog...though if you thought I was talking to you, that's alright haha!

Megan did such a great job, I just love it! It was time to update and get fresh. Basically a blog face lift.

Classroom Decor Online Haul!

Hey everyone!

I love online shopping. I love classroom decor. Put those two together and it's trouble! I hit several of my faves including Carson-Dellosa, Mardel, and Teacher Created Resources. If you want to know where certain items come from, let me know!

The nameplates replenish what I got last year, I wanted the Moroccan borders last year but didn't get them. The notepad matches of course and the pockets I'm not sure what I bought them for, because I forgot!
The calendar I had last year kept falling off the wall, so this one is much larger and can tack on the wall.
Writing poster that is perfect since I really didn't have any last year. I also bought more dry erase posters, I'm thinking question of the day will go there.
I had a how to choose the right book poster last year, but this is so much cuter! I love the the things good readers do chart too. It will hang in my library!
I teach a unit on the Oregon Trail/Oregon History and these posters are perfect! Love the timeline on the bottom.
I teach a measurement unit and conversions too. I don't know if I'll build the man/robot, but the other poster is handy!
Grabbed these letters. Love that they are already in circles and the black/white.
Couldn't resist magnetic arrows. I can use them to emphasize something due or something important. Plus I can write on them!
I'm excited to use these because they're corrugated and I thought it'll bring some extra pop to my bulletin boards.

Adding Pops of Color To My Class

Hey everyone!

I'm not changing up my room that much, just adding a few things. Some of these few things I found at Walmart in the back to school section.

How fun are these? To be honest, the one I only really "needed" was the dry erase magnetic talk bubbles. All of these were under $3. This isn't a sponsored post either lol!

I don't even know what I'm going to use this for. I just knew that'd I regret not getting it lol. What would you use it for?

These banners...I thought could maybe be subject headers for my bulletin board. Possibly go on my desk with my name? So many possibilities!

These of course are so easy to use. I had to try them out at home.

So fun and bright!

I'm planning to write notes, reminders, and I might do page numbers for math since we have workbooks this year.

What would you use the pencil tracker for?

I blogged over on Owl-Ways Be Inspired about how I'm going to use self-adhesive pockets in the classroom.

See you there!

Infographics and Summer Work

Hey everyone!

I know some of you have wrapped up your school year and some of you are like me, wrapping up the school year. My principal keeps reminding us that we need to be educating the kids even on the last day of school. I want to do fun things with them and still be educational and Carson-Dellosa is helping me with that!

I'm going to be using their  Infographics book. These are dry erase friendly and on cardstock! Perfect for my guided reading groups and they'll be reading topics that they're interested in.

They read an infographic and on the back, answer some questions.
Bonus: You can tear out the pages so multiple students can be reading several infographics!

Dry erase friendly!

Before my students head out for the summer, I want to send some summer work home with them. Don't want that summer slide!

I'll be making copies from the Summer Bridge Activities book. It has 5th grade material too, so I can help them get ready for next year. I love that it has multiple subjects covered.

My kids will be set for the summer!

We're Five?

Hey everyone,

It is hard to believe that Journey of a Substitute Teacher is five today! What a journey it has been.
From talking to a small audience to a larger one, meeting blogging authors and friends in Vegas, getting hired full time, you've been with me on that journey and I'm forever grateful.

I wanted to do a small, low-key giveaway. I'm giving away 5 $50 shopping sprees in my store over the next few days.

Thanks for sticking with me and supporting me these 5 years!

Teaching Students About Land and Water

Hey everyone!

My class just finished up their land and water unit. They did an amazing job!

We started off the whole unit with each table group having a plastic box and mixing gravel, sand, clay, and soil to create their land. Each box has a hole that has a plug. I use the kits our school has, from STC.

My kiddos started off with condensation and then precipitation.

They progressed to creating rivers and studying the flow of water from a small hole in a cup to a large one, to one with three holes.

They learned about redirection of water with hills and also saw erosion. They built dams, planted yellow mustard seed to see a natural dam. Learning about how plants stop erosion was an eye opener for them.
Then they had to be engineers again and create the perfect landscape for no flooding.

Finally it ended with slideshow presentations from each group and most chose to do theirs  about dams or water.

This unit took us several weeks, but my student never grew tired of it and looked forward to science. Seeing them work together to create and engineer the dams and landscapes was thrilling for me!

Testing Time Already?

Hey everyone!

Blech. It's almost that time of year that many  teachers despise. State testing. Last year was my first year having to prepare students. This year I feel better equipped, especially with the help of Carson -Dellosa.

The Spectrum kit I got includes a ton of practice pages and test prep pages!

It comes with these great flashcards that my kids will think is a game.

The math and LA pages will be great morning and center work. Even homework!

I'm really loving these kinds of pages with two texts, since our state test tends to have these.

My kids also need to have some fun with all this practice and they can do just that with this Interactive Notebooks Science Resource Book

I have a force and motion unit at the end of spring and this will be perfect!

Quick Update

Hey everyone!

I've been super quiet on here lately because as you've maybe seen on my IG or FB, I bought a house!

I'll post a house tour soon!

So in the mean time, here's a quick update on what's been going on in school.

I finished my last formal observation of the school year, hurray!

My students thoroughly enjoyed our Oregon Trail unit and we are now in our land and water unit.

I also won an award at my school and was recognized at a school board meeting.
