Food, Spring Word Wall, and a Little Bit of This and That

Warning: First part of blog post is not teaching related! Lol.

So yesterday I got a lot done. I made every meal yesterday. Breakfast was an omelette, lunch was onion rings and a corn dog (Morningstar Corn Dogs rock!), and dinner was a pizza. And yes, these were all healthy since I'm doing Weight Watchers.

This is called Lord of the Onion Rings by Hungry Girl. Easy and good!
Don't they look good? It was!

This was made with lavash. Lavash is a type of flatbread.

So they were healthy and scrumptious!

And I picked up my Zumba 2 Wii game today and did a few low intensity dances. Oh. My. If those were low intensity, I'll be exhausted doing medium or high! But I had a lot of fun exercising.

Ok, on teacher related things :)

I was happy to see I was one of the favorite stores featured yesterday on TN! See that's me top left! That seriously had me smiling all day.

I also worked on some new stuff for my TN store.  I just added a Spring Word Wall and I'm loving it!

Aren't they colorful?

Today's also the last day for my St. Patty's Day sale, included is a St. Patty's Day Word Wall only $0.85! Buy it and save it for next year!

I'm giving away my Spring Word Wall set to the first commenters with their e-mails!

And now I'm going to go make a salad for lunch. Mmmmm!

Words Where? and a Wonderful Wednesday

I'm in such a good mood today for many reasons! First off, the sun is shining!!! And to think, we had snow yesterday morning; crazy Oregon weather!

Things are moving so fast for me! 200 + followers...wow. Thank you all so much! Love my bloggy buddies!
I also have sold a few of my Sentence Sensation packets. You don't know how thrilled I am!!!  I'd love feedback on my store/products please!

And yesterday I was contacted by a company, wanted to pay  me to put a small one line link ad in my blog! If you would have told me that someone would pay me for advertising when I started my blog, I would have laughed. I'm still in amazement over how my little blog has grown and in May will be my 1 year blogiversary!

Ok, so onto some teachery stuff! Speaking of word walls the other day, I remembered a word 'wall' that the kiddos absolutely loved. It was on the ceiling! Each word was from the 'no excuse' list and each word was printed on a star. The teacher tacked them to the ceiling (or you could tape).

Then it became a game. The class was divided into two groups. One person in one group had a flashlight and went against another person from the other group who also had a flashlight. The teacher turns off the lights and picks a word from the ceiling. The first kiddo to put their light on the word wins. You could give points or just have it for fun. Then they pass their flashlight on to the next person. The kids loved it and had fun learning.

You could do this for sight words, no excuse words, or vocabulary you are learning about in a unit. So many possibilities! Or if you have a few extra minutes in a day, great way to sneak in extra learning!

Word Wall and Environmental Print Linky Party

As a sub, one of the things that I consider a benefit, is getting to see all these different classrooms. There are some classrooms that make it feel like home because they are so warm and inviting.  There are some similar things that I see in most classrooms, and one of those things is a word wall (or door or cabinet or shelves).

Several classrooms I'm in take their cabinet doors and turn them into word walls. Some take their storage doors and put the word wall there. And in one classroom, the bottom half of her wall is the word wall. I love that it is on kid level !

Another thing a lot of the teachers do is include their kiddos' names on the word wall. When writing stories about friends, they go up and look for their friends' names and they love it!

To make them last, most of the teachers laminate the letters on construction paper and add the words (also laminated) with a piece of tape on  the back.

I also really like environmental print. I often have teachers have me ask kids to write about what they did on the weekend or the night before. And it seems like they've usually gone out to eat or go somewhere and then of course want me to spell it for them. That's where I love environmental print!

In this picture, you can see Subway and Safeway and Walmart. These are all stores in our town. The words in orange are math words, the words in green are science words. I'm not sure the difference between yellow and pink words. And you can also see the kids have their pictures with their name on the word wall. This teacher has it placed on a cabinet. The kids use it ALL the time. They take clipboards for word work and they hover over here. They love seeing themselves up there!

Examples of word walls:

This is from Ms. M's blog! I love how she alternated colors. She also put the words up by grade level and those word are color coded.

I love Miss Foote's word wall ( Chickadee Jubilee blog)
I love that there are pictures with the word!

Then we have Jen from Runde's Room. I love her word wall and how she has the words organized by confusing words, contractions, and commonly misspelled.

So if you have a word wall, link up!
