Multicultural Children's Book Day

Hey everyone!

Exciting news! I'm proud to be one of many voices for Multicultural Children's Book Day! My district is multicultural with a large Latino and Russian population, yet there's not always books multicultural books for them to learn about their heritage.

I was fortunate enough to join up with Valarie and Mia, the co-founders of this event. They had a mission in mind:  Despite census data that shows 37% of the US population consists of people of color, only 10% of children’s books published have diversity content. Using the Multicultural Children’s Book Day, Mia and Valarie are on a mission to change all of that. Their mission is to not only raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity, but to get more of these types of books into classrooms and libraries. Another goal of this exciting event is create a compilation of books and favorite reads that will provide not only a new reading list for the winter, but also away to expose brilliant books to families, teachers, and libraries.

You can spread the word too! The official hashtag is #ReadYourWorld.
Also, they're also partnering with First Book to offer a Virtual Book Drive that will help donate multicultural children’s books through their channels during the week of the event.

So what did I get to do? I got to review a wonderful book called "All About China" by Allison Branscombe. There are stories, songs, crafts, and a ton more in this amazing book, that fits right in with our third grade world cultures and traditions unit we are currently doing. Our school library has a handful of culture books to share between all our classes, so this will be definitely used! I created a small companion pack to go with this book.

This all happens on the 27th. There are a ton more people involved that what I have listed below...there are other reviewers!

Bright Idea: Timeline In The Class

Hey everyone!

I am happy to share this bright idea I picked up while subbing and am now using in my class (I really should add more to it!)

What I did was cut up the neon sentence strips and wrote the months on them. I made sure I had space before I put them up, for all the months.

I only put graphs, but that was a big part of October for us, plus this was my first full month in my class. I want to put more for each month, maybe something from math, social studies, and reading.

Small item=big memory. The kids could tell you right now that's from Brazil during our world culture unit (which we're still doing!)

September we studied government, those are the three branches, bar graphs and data in October, rocks and minerals in November, world cultures in Dec., etc.

My kids often glance up and say, "Remember when we did...". I also want to include pictures of the students in action too!

If you enjoyed this bright idea, please consider joining me on Facebook or Instagram for more great ideas!

HP, You Made Me Happy

Hey everyone!

You know how I love office supplies! Well one great place to grab them is shoplet. They even have a section just for teachers and a $1.99 or less spot!

They sent me some paper to review and I was surprised to receive a few other little things with it. It was like Christmas, but in January lol.

First was this paper. It's called EcoFficient and they say it weighs 20% less, which I could tell it was lighter and I was worried it would tear easier, but it's just as sturdy. It printed out just fine too. I like it!

Then  was the cutey patootie usb zip drive. I may have squealed at how cute it was, that the lid was magnetic, and that I'm taking it to school for my classroom!

Finally, this mug.

Perfect spot to hold my pens at school or something. This was just a bonus in the package!

Plus I got reacquainted with my camera and had fun snapping these shots.

**This is an honest review. All opinions are mine. I was sent the paper to review in return of a review. Shoplet has other things besides office supplies like medical and more!
